Personal Note In A Dormitory Community Kitchen (Yellow Springs, OH) felt tip marker on paper |
They wanted me to make the world famous fried rice. Here, half a country away from the kitchen that I knew so well, a weird kind urban legend told to college friends of the people I knew. We went to the store, we bought supplies, but forgot a handful of things that would have been on the list, had I remembered not to assume every kitchen would be stocked with the same staples. As my friends and new Fried Rice Admirers praised my cooking at great length, I politely and humbly thanked them, and put this reminder in my hardbound book. When I got back to California, I thumbed through the pages, coming across this one, and cursed out loud as I read it and cemented it into my concious mind.
