The Middle Sister coffee, pencil on paper |
The oldest of the three sisters, Shirley Violet, aka "Shirley Beautiful" was a world-class assasin, employed by various agencies, both public and private. She had made her name early on as a bodyguard, and eventually fell to more unscrupulous work. As she always had in their childhood, she continued to take care of her two younger sisters. Even when "Snakebite" Violet (as she was known by her fans) fell on hard times, and got involved in hard drugs and an excess for drinking, Shirley still supported her, and even paid for her rehabilitation when Snakebite thought it was time to clean up. Even through her time in rehab, Shirley Still made sure that Snakebite had all the wigs she could possibly ask for, and saw to it that her staff members allowed Snakebite access to a typewriter, so that she could continue working on her novel. Her novel, incidentally, was "The Bamboo Caves" that did quite well once it was released, especially in Northern California among a certain community of Russian Jews who drew similarities to their childhood experiences through the strange book.
And there was that middle sister. I can't remember what her name was. I don't think she did anything noteworthy, at least, not like her sisters. She was a friend of my cousin, they were good friends actually. Quiet girl. Or she was just quiet when I was around. To this day my cousin has a hard time with her death. I remember when I first heard about it, my cousin came to stay with me for a few days. The first morning that she woke up on my couch, over a cup of coffee and some oatmeal, she told me that the middle sister had gone to the dry goods aisle of the supermarket she worked at so that she wouldn't be alone when she died. |
